Storydrive interview: 8 Questions for Yang Wenxuan

Wenxuan Yang is well known in the Chinese publishing world, a permanent member of The Publishers Association of China, founder of “One Way Street” bookstores, and an investor of Baby Cube Children Brand Management Co., Ltd.

Once the head of DANGDANG.com and 8848.com’s audiovisual works, he founded BHWTXP (Beijing Hua Wen Tian Xia Publishing Co., Ltd.) in 2002, and was responsible for the planning of dozens of bestselling books, some of which have been ranked among top ten best sellers lists in China. He has discovered numerous authors and has been rated seven times as China’s book planner of the year by the media. In 2009, Cloudary Corporation took a strategic stake in BHWTXP, bringing the company into its fold, affording the company the opportunity to participate in online and offline publishing as well as full copyright operations. At the end of 2014, Mr Yang joined Trustbridge Partners, specializing in investing in the children’s content industry.

Since having become involved in publishing, Mr Yang has acquired in-depth knowledge of IP and copyright. He has written articles for many media enterprises, and has been invited to give lectures. He has also served as lecturer at The Publishers Association of China, China’s editor’s association, and China’s copyright protection association. The topics of his lectures included What can we do for Books?, What can we do for Authors?, and The transformation of publishers in the age of the internet, all of which received praise and acclaim. Mr Yang has represented China’s independent publishers at the Frankfurt Book Fair, and delivered a keynote address on the impact of the internet on China’s publishing industry titled, When publishers run into the internet. At the International Publishers Association’s conference held in South Africa, he delivered a speech as the representative of private enterprises for The Publishers Association of China titled, The Power of China’s Private Publishers.
