Interview with Zhu Yingchun
1. Mr Zhu, what have you been busy with lately?
I’ve been telling stories about bugs and transformed birds to students in various universities, high schools and primary schools lately.
2. You participated in the Frankfurt Book Fair for the first time last year. What was your greatest impression? What is your exhibition program this year?
I came to the Fair last year with Bugs’ Book, and I could feel the audience’s passion for books and their respect for nature at the Frankfurt Book Fair. Transformed Birds is my exhibition program this year.
3. Can you tell us the most interesting anecdote you’ve encountered during the creation, book production or promotion process of Transformed Birds?
Some people are still asking me about whether “transformed birds” are real or fake.
4. The books you create and design have a unique “Zhu Yingchun storytelling flavor”. What do you think are the outstanding features that you yourself possess or that are in your book designs?
Natural and interesting.
5. You’ve most often come into contact with the “Most Beautiful Books in Germany”, and should be most familiar with it. What characteristics of German book binding and design are most worth learning from and used as reference?
Design and content are closely integrated, exquisite craftsmanship, and to the greatest extent possible, meet the reading and aesthetic functions.
6. Art, from design to presentation, has become increasingly integrated with digitization and technology. What do you think of this trend?
Embrace digital technology. It will enrich art design.
7. Can you give us a brief introduction of your next work?
It is still inspired and enlightened by nature, and related to nature.
8. Is there anything you would like to tell the future generation of this industry?
Remain curious, and be very motivated.
